Songs of Susannah: Music is my first language

Susannah Rolfes is a pianocentric indie singer/songwriter from Southeastern Indiana, performing as Songs of Susannah.

Songs of Susannah ( sounds like nothing else out there, a cross between folk and alternative rock, between Enya and Tori Amos, Natalie Merchant and Loreena McKennitt, Neil Young and October Project, Indigo Girls and Donovan, Dead Can Dance and Tom Petty.

Susannah has been making up songs since she was a toddler, and has been writing music for the piano since she was 3 or 4 years old. She always has a song in her head, and captures as many of these as possible, on sheet music and in the recording studio.

Although she mostly plays the piano, Susannah also plays many other instruments, including the guitar. She sometimes even plays the piano with one hand and a drum with the other!

Born in Cincinnati, Ohio, Susannah has lived in Indiana all her life, most of it in a house in the woods overlooking Laughery Creek, about four miles from the outskirts of Dillsboro, Indiana.

Susannah is Autistic and it's quite possible that her musical ability is a savant skill; although not a prodigy, she has the same neurological and experiential traits common to all music savants.

Songs of Susannah is a project designed to get the unique music of Susannah Rolfes out into the world.

Songs of Susannah has recently launched a song-of-the-week project on YouTube, and will be releasing the album, "Singing in a Damaged Voice," next year.
